Hi everyone!! I'm Zaleigh. I've career pivoted from hospitality management - (actively trying) art direction. I know the opportunity for arts jobs is so incredibly small, especially as a beginner in what could be described as a niche field, but I'm stubborn and what to make this pivot work out. I'm wondering if there are others that have pivoted out of hospitality, or any other sector, into a more creative role. I'd love to know any insights/ tips/tricks!!

I am trying to pivot from an hospitality career into data analysis. I've done a course and been actively looking for the last 4 months and it is tough, entry level positions or junior. It is tough, I only had 2 interviews and one ghosted me and the other one said that I do not have experience. I am in my 40's and I feel this is one of the reasons why I have no chance in getting interviews (I might be wrong). I started applying for hospitality jobs again because I want to work, I hate sitting around not doing anything. Good luck, I hope you find what you are looking for :)

Thanks so much for your well wishes and luck, I hope the same for you too!! I'm so sorry to hear about your similar struggles with getting your foot in the door, Its very much character testing isn't it! Congrats on the 2 interviews, in my experience I haven't had any so that's huge coming from where I'm at. I have also contemplated with applying back into hospo, I feel so deflated, restricted and un-hopeful without having a job, but I know if I venture back into hospo I will feel worse. It's hard to stay connected to the reason I pivoted career in the first place. But I'm stubborn and pushing hope, still, even if sometimes I'm faking it. :\\

Hi Zaleigh!
Art Direction sounds much more inspiring than hospitality ;)
A few ideas: volunteer or paid opportunities in places where you can show your creative side, and where the right people could meet you organically. Art galleries, museums, other venues w exhibits/events, just to name a few.
👉 Perhaps prepare an elevator pitch so your story is ready at a moments notice. You never know who you'll meet & the possible connections!

Thank you so much for this thoughtful advice, I really appreciate it! Art direction definitely feels more aligned with where I want to grow, so your suggestions mean a lot. I love the idea of getting involved in galleries and creative spaces to both build experience and meet the right people organically.

And you’re absolutely right about the elevator pitch. I’ll start working on that so I’m ready when opportunities come up. Thanks again for taking the time to share this!☺️

Would love some advice / thoughts. I went straight from law school to a corporate legal department in house for an asset manager. My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…

I have an urgent situation that I need advice for: what job to take? I currently have 2 job offers. Offer A (Scientist 3): 70k with full benefits including 15 PTO days and 5k tuition assistance yearly. It was sent to me last Wednesday and yesterday they left me a voicemail asking for a decision at my earliest convenience. Offer B (Manager): 76k with full benefits minus tuition assistance and only 5 PTO days first year (15 days after). Both companies said they'd groom me to take management roles.

Leaving my current job for a career pivot. Current job has been challenging to say the least and senior management never hears what others have to say. Employment is an at will state.
Senior leadership is so unforgiving that I fear by giving notice, I’ll be asked to leave and lose out on two weeks pay.
Thoughts and feedback on not giving notice or reducing the typical two weeks?
Thank you!
