If the other driver is at fault and their insurance is on the hook, you can tell them to pound sand and that the car will be fixed by the Toyota dealer’s body shop.
I had the same thing happen like 15 years ago when my BMW got rear ended. Called the dealer, they sent me to their affiliated body shop, and the other driver’s insurance said that “they don’t accept estimates from THAT body shop.” I told them that’s who BMW recommended and who would be repairing my car, and that was that.
Insurance is trying to bully you to keep their payout as low as possible.
What do you think I should do? Does insurance typically cover any supplementals?
On your own insurance, what do you have for coverage? Replacement policy or OEM Parts only?
If you don't use a network shop, then they can't direct bill to the insurance company, so you would have to pay for the repair and then submit the bill for reimbursement. However, it's not guaranteed the full amount will be approved. Thats where you have to be careful.
