I don’t know. I guess better than regular American life - most consulting firms are openly trying to be diverse. I think I have had it good probably considering how others complain about daily racism issues. I have done relatively well and never got into any overt racist situations.
I’ll also admit that I’m very bad at picking subtle racism and don’t get flustered if someone asks a stupid question that may be seen as racist by others.
well. i think its bad because its not straight forward like industry. you are consistantly second guessing yourself. having said that, i never had an issue with clients. however i do work in data science so my experience may be skewed to my pa.
I’m curious to hear from others. My current project has me in a role where my age and ethnicity are definitely outliners. Very hard to definitively say some of interactions I have have racist undertones or if it just stems from doubting my capability in general lol
Never been in overt racist situations. I don’t think I would ever pick up on subtitle stuff. There was one waitress who made a light hearted racists joke at our team lunch. I laugh at her ignorance maybe that was bad since it because one can think I found the joke funny. My team was ready to jump to my defence. But I told not to because at least to me the joke was well intentioned and my sensibility to this stuff is low so I also wasn’t offended.
Yes the joke was racially based which I think makes it racist however there was no negative subtext. I live a happy life by giving people the benefit of the doubt.
I would imagine it’s more likely to occur when dealing with high level clients
Yes.
