How do we... In the tech industry... Feel about AI resume reviews and candidate selection? I personally don't like that a computer can eliminate me. I'd rather a human do it for some reason. 🤷🏽‍♀️

The whole point of AI is neither they nor the senior execs have to care what you think. And they don't.

I have been rejected for 2 jobs at a company by AI I'm assuming but reached out to someone I knew in the company who put me in touch with the division head and I'm on interview 2. You have to play the game with AI, but you really need to find a connection at the company to get you in front of the hiring manager. AI is just a way for TA to have less to review. And based on my experience you really can't depend on getting through it and even if you're rejected you can still sometimes get to the humans and actually get an interview. TA is overwhelmed so they've leaning on AI to make their job easier and missing many candidates. I've heard so many stories like this from hiring managers and candidates.

It has definitely rendered all the knowledge I have of making an effective resume useless and I'm not sure anyone has any idea what works to get through the AI but also be appealing to a human hiring manager.

The whole thing is like an arms race. The Easy Apply button made it basically one click for job seekers to apply to a job. They started to use a “spray and pray” approach without even reading the job posting carefully. The people in HR screening the resumes were swamped and started using tools to try to knock out hundreds of unqualified resumes they were getting. They didn’t care if they also knocked out some qualified applicants as long as they could find a qualified person to send on to the hiring manager. Now AI Bots are sending in applications (for reasons I don’t fully understand - I know the claims but they don’t make sense to me). It’s gotten so bad we are back to the hiring manager recruiting their friends and co-workers from previous jobs. The manager of my sister dept pretty much only hires friends of current or past employees now. One guy she hired is the childhood friend of her husband.

It’s making it even harder to get a job.

Considering a Product Owner role. Any best practices of what questions to ask during an interview? First phase deals with a virtual Teams interview with the recruiter and her manager on Tuesday.
