You don’t. You just remind yourself you’re getting time-and-a-half while they’re burning hot dogs.
I make it up on another day. Goes for all the celebrations I might miss because of work. I remember having to work Christmas day for years and I’d make it a point to do something on my first day off around it. Just recalculating a bit, not missing out.
This one isn't as bad because we close early and the 4th isn't that important to me personally. Working Thanksgiving or Christmas is a different story. I don't think it's possible not to feel some amount of FOMO, you just have to try to shut it out as best you can and make the most of the days you do have off.

This may sound corny but I have found the secret is to be someplace you truly enjoy and to have a good team that also adds to the enjoyment. They may not be at the table in person for the whole event, but they can be there in spirit as the person who made a favorite dish or special dessert for their loved ones.
