If OP thinks punishment is working until 8, bless OP's heart
The curse of competence, you should slow down, as a senior, i move work from incompetent staff to competent staff. But I try to reflect that in reviews, so make sure that's the case. If not, I'd recommend slow down, watch Netflix or something.
Slow down for sure. Go on an hour lunch break go for a "starbucks" run white people don't frown upon that. Go get water and spend like 10 minutes socializing. Kill time in ways that are normal in PA and at the end of the day your going to be in good shape
EY OP - it actually sounds to me that you helped the other Senior out. You also got more experience by doing the work. Yes, you worked later than the slacker, but both your hard work and their slacking doesn't go unnoticed. It also sounds like your senior trusts you to get stuff done. That is also a good thing. So, I wouldn't consider it a punishment. I am also sure No one told you that what you signed up to do was 9-5 job.
Long short story my senior asked another senior if his staff had anything on her plate. It turned out that she had something and I eventually picked it up. I feel there is no reward for finishing work early, but got punished by picking up other person's slack.
Ahh, in this case, keep your availability on the DL. If you wanna avoid. This other senior is not gonna write your review for a small task. Your senior doesn't know what you did for him.
You didn't pick up anyone's slack 😂
You don't let a staff give you work unless they've been assigned as an acting senior on your engagement
Trolling
EY OP - thanks for the clarification. The Senior was just an a$$hole. I have been a partner 12 years and wouldn't do that to you.
He's trolling there's no way someone is this dumb
The people that sandbag are also the people that get 3s and complain about 2-4% raises. 🐸☕️
...so you didn't get asked to pick up work from another staff, you got asked to finish your work initially assigned to you.
I told my senior that my last task is ready for review Since he realized that there is nothing on my plate, he just asked around and found extra work for me. Unfortunately, that extra work wasn't just a simple task
EY 1- I stayed until 8 and was the last staff to leave the office
EY2 just gave you the secret to success. I'll add one, make sure the one task you did for your senior is good quality so that he doesn't question why you spent 8 hours on it.
And make sure between socializing, lunch break, coffee break, you conveniently finish at 5, so assuming non-busy season, it's too late to assign you more work.
Yeah also don't make it too obvious that you are slacking. Also pick the right timing to slack, don't pick the time when there's filing going on.
If the task was harder than expected and not holding up an urgent deadline, check in with assigning senior and say this is taking me longer than expected, I'm getting ready to head out and I'll pick this up first thing in the morning. Even if they said it needed to be done today you can follow up if it's more complex than they realized.
