How do you deal when people try to put down-days in a schedule? We can’t realistically book other work on random days.

Most of my clients just book me all the way through, down days definitely aren’t a regular occurrence. Just comes up every now and again

Absorb it and use the time on side / remote projects. Or I just... have a day off and do things I need / want to do!

This might be the wrong place to ask but is getting a car worth it?

I think it’ll somewhat improve QOL but with parking, insurance, gas and financing costs I’m not sure spending almost 1K/month is a good idea at 22.

The other problem is that used cars are so damn expensive right now so I can’t just buy a used mx5 for 5-10K

Having a lot of trouble deciding between two opportunities, Sr. PM at Amazon or Gaming Producer at Warner Bros. I’ve always been very interested in joining the gaming industry, but unsure if it’s worth giving up the security and brand name of Amazon. Would also have to reneg at Amazon but I’m not too concerned about that

Again posting since my last post did not got attention. Wanted to ask whether it's good to switch to big 4 India advisory role from a mid tier organization dealing in tech and ops. Additionally, they offered just very low percentage on current CTC saying that I am coming to a big brand.
Plus my current financial situation is stressful and I accepted the offer on certain conditions but now hr or the firm but saying we can't committ you. Any suggestions.

Not necessarily a Trump personality fan but putting America first should be our priority. My Trump votes were votes for conservatives and against the elitist Hillary and vegetable Joe. The left has done nothing but create chaos. Luckily, I work in a conservative area. Most of my colleagues are right leaning.

Hi Everyone, Started my career in government 5 years ago working in an operational role, then focussed on HR for 3 years working my way up to a middle manager role in HR as a business partner and completed my Level 7 CIPD. I don’t think HR or government is for me anymore and looking to find something new, now 24 feel I have a lot of transferable skills and knowledge but worried about private companies in other professions taking me seriously. Grateful for any advice - thanks in advance!

Additional Posts in Video Editors

Hey everyone - any freelance editors or editors/director/makers who live in (or work in) the Atlanta market?

Anyone have a magic number that would make you give up freelancing and take a staff job? (New York)

What’s the highest day rate you’ve heard of an editor charging? I just found out what somebody is charging and it made my jaw drop.

How’s everyone doing out there? Busy? Slow? Remote? In person? Lower rates?

What are some mid-level commercial edit shops with a good reputation? Ones that do good work but not necessarily big budget/super high end? Hopefully NY based? Tyia

I work at a post-house and made a spec spot using a bunch of footage that was provided to us by a client (direct to brand relationship, not via an agency). Clients haven’t seen....

Are y’all raising rates to account for inflation? Am I stupid if I haven’t yet?

Are post-houses ramping back to in-person? I’m freelance and so far have had a couple in-person sessions but everything else has still been remote. I’m in NYC.

How much does a post house typically charge an advertising client for editing in NYC? Whether that’s hourly, daily, etc.

When you do a cut and you’re super excited and proud. And then the director weighs in and it gets even better! And then... the client makes it worse. And worse again. And worser still. Sigh.

Website question: is it bad to have a few spots that are over five years old? I keep them down at the bottom and the majority are much newer so they sort of serve as a ‘best of’ my older work.

Yet again I’m watching a client fuck up a nice spot so bad I can’t put it in my reel. Absolutely disheartening.

What would you do in this situation? I signed a schedule A for one weeks work at Company A for $600 per day and then company B offered me 2 weeks work at $800 per day.

Does your agency have any revision requests you always turn away as a rule of thumb?

I'm working on establishing our video department and I pretty much have to start from scratch as far as client/internal understanding of the video process goes (we are a fairly small agency). Any other general advice would be awesome as well.

Thinking about making the jump from senior level in-house to freelance. 12+ years experience. Shoot, edit, color, after effects, mix, etc. What kind of day rate could I expect in Mpls or Chi?
