How do you deal with making mistakes in big law? I’m a mid level recent lateral (small to big) and have made a couple mistakes in my first few months. Nothing huge but still mistakes. I own up to them and try to improve but it still weighs on me. Generally people have said good things about my work but I’m worried these mistakes can jeopardize that

We all make mistakes regardless of our position or experience (even partners make mistakes!). In my experience, if you take responsibility for the mistake without making excuses, people will respect that and move on. (I’ve been in Big Law for 30 years).

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

Layoffs. Most big firms say they're sitting on a conservative pile of cash - which I believe is true - but work will obviously not return to pre-COVID levels in the short term, probably not even in the medium term. Are Biglaw layoffs coming?
