Is it worth leaving big law for a FAANG job? Probably a $50k pay cut plus lose the partner track option for future. I'm probably 3 years away from making partner. Have a friend there already. Heard work life balance is better but comp not as good and lower ceiling. Thoughts?

What do senior associates in Chicago make?

I used to care about and chase the opportunity to produce cool/fun/funny work. But, as of the last couple years..it’s just more about stability, keeping working relationships happy, building finances, i.e. it’s just a job. Not about pushing for the most fun creative ideas—I still do that—I just don’t care enough to fight as much if they don’t get it. Definitely still feel genuinely defeated when truly awesome concepts get glossed over by a client who has no clue what they want.

I have a finance degree from UGA, but all of my experience (3.5 years) is in sales (tech and real estate), so no relevant internships unfortunately. What’s the common process for when a client offering you a job at the end of the project? Do you still have to go through interviews and stuffs like a normal application or the client would just send you an offer?
The client asked me to join their team, we talked about the position (no specific comp yet), and they asked for my resume. Just want to know what the common process is like in this situation, TIA.

UXers - I'm intrigued to know how specific your job role is under the umbrella term of UX. Would your job sway into other avenues such as UI, design, development or consultancy?

I’m doing my first UX portfolio on Wix. I have the case studies content drafted out, but I’m struggling with brainstorming wireframes/actual UI for my case studies. I make it a rule to look for dribbble/behance for inspo but only sketch when im not looking at things because I don’t want to copy directly.

I’ve tried using paper/thin markers highlighters, tried using procreate, and also illustrator/photoshop & a tablet. I keep running into issues where I feel overwhelmed. How do I simplify this?

I have 8 years of graphic / web design followed by 8 years of pure UX. Currently WFH but live near NYC, making 140 base / 165 total. I think I’m due for a move and looking for 175 base / 200+ total.

I am product designer with a fair amount of experience (6yrs).

Recently was interviewed for a Sr. role in Booking but unfortunately the team finds me better suited as a core individual contributor.

I am also in the advanced stages of some lead designer positions in other companies.

However I am really interested in joining the team at Booking, especially because of the design culture.

What should be my reasons to accept or not accept the offer from booking?

Any tips for writing a self-review? I have low self esteem and think I’m bad at everything, so it’s hard to know what to put in ‘super powers’ and ‘areas of development’. What is the difference between Principal Design Strategist & Design Strategist?

My current title is the latter and I’m interviewing for a Principal role. The title suggests it’s more senior and would appear to be a promotion on my resume but the jd sounds similar to what I’m already doing. I’m currently and IC, Principal is also IC. The only nuance I got from the recruiter is that there is no actual designing in this role.

Hey! I'm just about to start doing some freelance work for a NYC based boutique design studio, and I need to give a hiring manager my hourly rate to give his customers. I am new to UI/UX design. I have experience in graphic design, but I just completed a certificate in UI/UX design so other than school projects I don't have an extensive amount of experience. What would you suggest I should charge? I am more interested in gaining experience than needing the money, but want to be payed reasonably.

Is it normal for a Product Owner to lay out specs for how a feature should work?

I thought that was my job as the ux designer to figure out the best way to solve a need. But I’m getting handed projects where the PO, and sometimes the senior designer has laid out exactly what should happen (components used, flow, etc) to design a feature. It’s really frustrating because I don’t know if I’m supposed to be speaking up on what I think or just do the UI work I’m asked to.

I have a $1,400 annual learning stipend, and looking for ideas on ways to spend it. Any suggestions on coding classes, digital subscriptions, conferences, etc? How have you spent your learning stipend in the past, or what are you planning to spend it on?
