I think it is all just money making scams. There should be high school graduation and college graduation and that is it

I agree. It has definitely gotten out of hand.
We call it a Kindergarten Celebration. I think it made more sense when you were moving from half day kindergarten to full day 1st grade. It was a big step. But I don’t think that it is the same as a graduation.8th grade graduation is a big thing here too. I don’t get it. I think you graduate from high school and college /trade school.

I think just being a celebration is a good idea. A graduation is just too much for me.
I think they are silly and a waste of time and energy. We don’t do them anymore in my district. Too much work. And too many different needs to consider. I am glad we don’t do it any more!

I'm sure that's a relief. One less thing to worry about at the end of the year.

I can definitely understand that. I think it's just one more thing for parents and teachers to worry about.
There are pros and cons to this practice. For some families it may be that the grandparents are raising these children and they may not live or have the ability to see their high school graduation.
I loved the way I did my own k-5 graduation: first I named the graduates in kindergarten and gave certificates of graduation to them. Since I teach K-2 AU, I then distributed awards to each child in my class for each grade level in my room. The parents were so excited and happy for every child- it was truly an amazing experience! I will definitely do the graduation ceremony this way from here on in!

I think for me it just feels like when everything is celebrated nothing is special. Does that make sense?
Having been educated outside of the US I am completely bemused by graduation ceremonies k -12. Most European countries have a leavers assembly or celebration. Awards are given out etc. But cap and gown is usually reserved for college/ university . Such a flamboyant often expensive event for something that should be a no brainer. It negates the actual importance and specialness of a university graduation if you have done it 4-5 times already. My district the HS congregation program is printed months before the actual night thus contains the names of students that actually failed or cross the stage without completing the requirements or who had left the school for a variety of reasons.
