Meh. My long-standing meeting etiquette is simple:
Whenever possible, no meetings scheduled before 10am, for 4pm or later, or lunch.
Why 10am? Some people start at 9 and like to make their plan for the day, or if they have collateral for the meeting, may want to do a final once-over. Developers may have still been going at midnight, etc.
Anything outside of the above should really be a ‘critical’’ call, IMO.
You can always try to block off recurring time on your calendar as busy, although I swear some to many are incapable of checking attendee availability before sending out invites…
I have generally not scheduled meetings on Friday afternoons as many of my peers use that time to catch up of To Do lists. Additionally, many are thinking of the weekend anyway. In my last company (Dell) they actually had a policy of no meetings after noon on Friday. The one time I had to violate this it was a customer issue that required the call.
I would definitely not do what I did early in my career which was to schedule a 4:30 call on Friday to discuss SKU's. It took me years to shake that one off.
I block out my calendar at the end of the day so no one can schedule over them. And if I do get one I will ask if it’s urgent they have to schedule it for that time. That time is sacred to me
That should only happen in true 'emergent' situations or you have a large group you need to get together that is truly the only time that works but this shouldn't be a recurring thing and happen rarely. 4PM on Friday? Everyone is mentally checked out and just rushing to get that over with.
