I try and look back at my own childhood, and remember my mom working. It made me stronger and better than I would have been if she was always there 'helping' with everything. I have seen the SAHM when things are going badly, she has nothing to fall back on, she can't take care of herself or her kids -- that is really scary. I've worked with the SAHM re-entering the workforce after 15-20 years and starting at entry level, very difficult. Look at why it is good to work and what it adds to your life and your kid's lives -- that will help you to have a reason why you do it. I love working and being a mom - I can do both, and I'm good at both. I believe having a job outside made me a better mom - because I enjoy the time I have with them and I'm happy to see them when I get home. Also, we have separate lives and they aren't the only thing I base my self esteem on, that's a lot of pressure for a kid.
Love this - thank you!!
This is so relatable! I think once your kids get a little older, you’ll see that there are a lot more kids who have working moms than what you see right now. My advice is to keep your eyes on your own path and don’t compare your path to someone else’s! If i want to take my kids to the pool, I’ll block out my work calendar to do it. It’s taken me a while to get to the place where i feel comfortable doing that… but now that i can, i feel wonderful about being a working mom. I love having a career, being able to provide and buy whatever i want and living life harder without limitations. Also, remember that there’s always the option to take a break and come back to work to see if you love being a SAHM. No decision you make is final….. you can always do what YOU want!
This is great advice, thank you! I love that you just block your calendar out for activities with your family when you need to. I’m slowly getting to that spot of feeling like I can ‘control my own time’ more as well. Thank you!
I also have a lot of SAHM in my community and from my experience all they do is constantly spend money on their houses and keeping-up-with-the-joneses crap. So they’re not making money and they’re spending more. Not for me.
Ya good point. Just sometimes I wish I could just stay home with my kids and spend money all day too 😂. I know it’s not really like what it seems though.
