That's such an uncomfortable position to be in. I had something similar happen at my previous employer, and the anxiety it caused really messed with me. The only thing you can really do is continue working hard and start submitting applications, so if the worst does happen, you've at least got a head start on the job hunt. I'm sorry you're dealing with that, fingers crossed things get back to normal soon.

I’ve been dragging my feet with submitting apps due to the climate of the job market but I guess things are always changing….
Two things I do not like hearing are, “don’t worry about it’ and ‘this should be easy/simple”. To focus on that first one, I am a bit of a natural worrier, so that doesn’t help. If anything I would just be proactive in that worry, start hoping for the best, but having a plan for the worst. New CEO and restructuring is unsettling and I don’t think you are out of line with being concerned.

Thank you for the validation. They’ve been shady not just either patient matters but with its employees too…..my dpt went from 30 specialists to 15 and they have no plans to rehire…. Citing they are keeping “an eye” on the needs of the dpt versus hospital….Meanwhile other positions throughout the hospital (manager level +) are being “eliminated/dissolved” and it seems to be coming out of nowhere, making everyone feel like a layoff is just around the corner. Not a good feeling…..
Typically, I try to stay calm and cool on the outside while my insights are turning in nuts and I’m freaking out. I like to think I’m hiding in my panic well but I’m probably not but we went through layoffs not long ago and I was so stressed I vomited at work so I get the stress.

Did the layoffs come out of left field or did you see them coming?
Many nonprofits are having cash flow problems due to the administration interfering with federal grant checks. Look at your company's 990s on ProPublica and see if it even has a reserve to pay payroll if grant checks are delayed. Never put all your eggs in one basket. Start sending out the resumes asap. Better to have skillets already in the fire if you get a pink slip.
