How do you handle work situations without a union representative? Is it even worth trying to stand up for yourself?

It can be. Approach with facts and a solution. Understand who to talk to and where the best chance of action is.

Yeah knowing the chain of people to go down can be very helpful.

Yes. There's no guarantee you'll get what you want, obviously, but then again, there isn't if you're being represented by a union either. I've always been a believer in that old "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" saying. If you want something to change, you have to speak up.

I think the speaking up bit can be very scary but if you don’t ask you don’t get.

It depends, need more context here

I think I just mean quite generally, like if you were being taken advantage of with being given too much work or overworked how would you handle it.

Yes u r give me Visa

Okay cool!

Union talk makes non union corps very nervous

Yeah I feel like whenever it’s brought up at my place we have to say it with very hushed tones.

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Anybody know salary range for VP Operations for GS in SLC?

I'm new to all this. Is it best to save 10% of my salary all in my company's 401k (with 20% match, increasing by 5% every year)... or saving 5% in 401k and 5% in a Roth IRA?

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!

I’m interviewing with a startup and the range has a 40k difference from the lowest to highest point. It’s also pre-seed and comes with equity, and health, 401k benefits. It’s a director of sales role so I would eventually be recruiting and managing a team along with building the processes and strategy. What would you consider a fair compensation package? If they offer me something on the lower end of the range, is it still appropriate to counter with an offer that is over their stated range?
