How do you know when to avoid conflict at work and when to utilize it? There's a PreK teacher who resists me at every turn when I have IEPs with parents. She will contradict me right in front of them, she won't let me pull kids for random reasons, and honestly, she has just become really rude. I've tried to be patient and hold my tongue, but I am u I can take it anymore.

That is so tough! Can you sit down with her and talk about your shared students? Make common goals that you work on together? Make a plan before you meet with parents so that you are on the same page? Would she be willing? I am lucky that the related service providers and I get along well. We meet weekly for consultation about our shared students and have scheduled consults before every IEP meeting to make sure we all feel prepared. It helps a lot! Also, she should not be telling you that you can’t pull students for their pull-out speech sessions, especially if it is on their service delivery grid. That is illegal. Is she an experienced teacher in integrated Pre-k or new? Does she understand the law and the required services? You are supposed to be on the same team to promote student progress. I hope things get better!

She is "experienced" but apparently I'm not the first SLP to have complained against her according to my supervisor. Unfortunately she refuses to collaborate with me at all, saying things like "so-and-so doesn't need that" or "I'm already making sure the student is doing XYZ" she is also just very combative and constantly challenges me. I'll keep trying... but I am not sure this is sustainable. Please send good vibes haha

I have the same situation w/ a teacher nor wanting to talk. I emailed her with a proposed collaboration time with.our principal as the facilitator. We compromised, somewhat but anything that we discuss is with our administrator as facilitator. Sometimes it can be tough when people are not willing to collaborate.

That seems hard! I totally understand... I have gotten to the point where I can't meet with this individual alone anymore which is rough but it is what it is. Really hoping they go work at a different school next year lol

I don’t know about you, but this year, I want to get better at having a work/life balance. I love having the time in the summer to do things around the house, but struggle when the school year starts. If you have any tips, suggestions, or systems that have worked for you when it comes to planning, etc. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Anyone else the last to be informed about ANYTHING at their site? I am only a second year SPED teacher and my eyes are already wide open to the fact that admin and Gen Ed teachers so often fail to inform me about important things regarding the grade levels I teach and other school events. I have a principal with ZERO sped experience or knowledge observing and rating me. I got all distinguished last year from my AP. He gave me all basics & 2 unsat. He’s told us to not worry about goals

I feel like I'm at my wits end. I teach self-contained classes and according to the ISBE website my classes shouldn't be more than 8 students unless I have an aide - then it can be 10. I have no aide and most of my classes are around 14 kids. Some with behavior plans that are only out of our behavior room setting for my class... Is anybody else out there going through illegal class sizes for self-contained? How are you dealing? Maybe a vent session is in order.
