You just carry on and do your job as normal. I'd try to stop that distancing if I was you. That may be easier said than done, but you really shouldn't allow caring about where you work to keep you from doing what's right for you and your career.
Found myself in a similar boat, having to step down due to some stuff in my personal life, but until the day comes im still gonna do what I set out to do.

First of all, your job should not define you, nor should it be your primary character trait. If you have to disengage because you are looking for a new job, it would suggest you allowed yourself to get too close to begin with.
Remember, you company owes you no loyalty, and you owe them none. You give them time and effort in exchange for pay. And if something better (and better doesn't always or only mean more pay) comes along, you should definitely take it. Morally, and ethically, you should give appropriate notice and tie up loose ends (finish projects, hand off work in progress), but that is really all you owe them.
So, look for a new job. Continue to give your current employer appropriate effort for compensation. Stay engaged. And, if and when a better offer comes along, confidently give your notice, thank them for the opportunity (if you feel it is warranted), and prepare to start your new career.
Think of it like your last Hoorah. Just have fun
How are you distancing yourself? I try to keep things as normal as possible even when job searching, because I have no idea how long it might take.
I understand that. Being a little less invested is something a lot of us can stand to do, job searching or not!
This is my current scenario - it's getting harder since I have been looking for so long at this point... I'm definitely not nearly engaged enough at my current job. Not sure how to improve that at this point!
