How do you politely tell a superior that being young doesn't mean I’m their personal IT department? I’m tired of being the Technology Liaison just because I’m under 40. The partners assume that because I know how to use an iPhone, I’m also an expert in legal AI, database management, and fixing the office Wi-Fi. I spent two hours today troubleshooting a printer for a Senior Partner who bills $900/hour.

I’m confused, does your firm not have an IT department? How many billable hours are getting burned having you constantly troubleshoot this stuff? If I were you, I’d just loop in IT directly instead of spending time on it next time and just give the partner a heads up that you’ve done so. Personally, if it takes me more than 10 minutes to figure out an IT issue, I’m calling IT immediately.

Has anyone ever posted a general marketing position? We have an open position on our marketing team but we are unsure what type of position to offer. We have a wide variety of needs but don’t necessarily need to have this future person have all these skills. For example we need someone with great copywriting skills and also need someone who is great at digital marketing. This person doesn’t necessarily need to have both skills but if they did great, but if only one, great too.

We are starting to prep a big case for a 3 week federal trial. I’ve been an attorney for a year now and my firm has had this case for a while. What are some tips you have for prepping and also that will make my boss choose to take me to the trial? I have been the main associate on the file but other attorneys have done stuff here and there.

Transactional junior associate in biglaw. Working for a dedicated practice group rather than in an associate pool. For the past few months, I’ve been loaned to another practice group for a good chunk of time. While the people are decent and the hours aren’t terrible, I detest the work and don’t see a future in this new practice. My main partner says it should end in the next month, but I don’t expect that to happen. Is it a terrible idea to ask to be taken off?
