I recently applied to the Content Designer, 2023 Graduate remote role at Atlassian and I'd appreciate it if I could get a referral.
Here are some details to aid in your decision-making:
- Last summer, I worked at Google as a UX Content Design Intern.
- I am currently in a grad program at
NYU and will graduate in Spring 2023.
- Before graduate school, I spent 3+ years as a Copywriter in Advertising.
I'd really appreciate any recommendation I can get at this time.
Any opening for marketplace analyst???

Most sweatshop agencies?
Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?

Salary is contingent on so much more than just years in the business. What agency/agencies you've worked at. Awards you've won. Recognizable work in your book. How well you negotiate.
In my opinion, $75 after 10 years feels low. But $75 for an intermediate creative feels about right.
For context, I was at around $100k about 5 years in, as a senior writer.
You’re getting hosed. After 10 years you should definitely be making more than 75
I think that’s completely realistic.
As others have said, salary is dependant on so much more than just time in the industry.
More so than having any recognizable/award-winning work in my book, I feel that my technical design and interpersonal skills have increased my value to employers. For reference, I’m making 95k about 5 years in.
ACD2, from my limited experience, yes.
Thanks everybody. Started as a designer but now been an AD at a few big shops for ~6 years altogether. Haven't won any awards (except for a student thing way back) but I also haven't applied for any.
I'm good at what I do, very efficient and organized, good at presenting, friendly and fun to be with. I have a lot of skills: digital (web/UX + I code but not for work), print (design and production), video (storyboards and direction), minor animation.
I think I bring a lot to any agency. I'll def ask for more next time.
Would love to know how your negotiations go! Feel I am in similar boat...hard to get to the next rung of Senior AD position.
Yes that’s very realistic. To give you something to compare, I was at 70k at 5 years and that felt low at the time.
Also an AD
I think your ask is reasonable. I also started as a designer before making the switch to an AD working with a writer. Including those years, I’m also hitting 10 years. I’m making 110.
I agree with ACD2. I don’t think your book is junior either, but I think the type of agencies you’re looking at or trying to apply to aren’t the right ones. Traditional ad agencies don’t seem to be the right place for you.
Titles are tough too. Senior art director can mean different things at different types of agencies. I would research the kind of shops you wanna work at and look at the portfolio of someone senior who works there and go from there.
I previously worked at Leo. If you want to chat more, feel free to PM me. Happy to help!
