In person and with empathy.
Mentor
Love that - empathy is so, so important
In-person for sure so it can help eliminate any interpretation of tone that might happen from a written note. Feels more collaborative, less accusatory!

I agree! I think in-person is just much kinder and allows for questions
Always in person in as polite a fashion as possible. It stings no matter how the message is delivered, but a gentle approach can help soften the blow. Great call on following up via email. I do this as well, both for documentation purposes and to ensure there's no misunderstanding.

Yes! I always try to come from a place of understanding; you’re right it massively helps soften the blow
I try to shout it at juniors on their lunch break
I definitely prefer to give feedback in person. I think sometimes if it is an email or any other form of communication it may not come across in the right tone and I don't like that. I definitely follow up and keep a paper trail though.
I've found its most effective to give along the way. Slowly molding someone and making minor course corrections along the way seems to work better for me than one massive sit-down detour.

Yes! This is definitely something I’m trying to get better at. Always giving clear feedback along the way so it’s not a huge bomb drop later on.
