ChatGPT is just an unpaid intern. You still have to coax the right material from it and creative direct whatever it gives you. The strength of its output is directly proportional to your talent.
If it helps them, great. Everything I’ve gotten out of it is utterly unusable, but maybe I don’t know how to give the right prompts.
ChatGTP is not a copywriter you still have to prune sentences, and edit copy to sound human…
It takes me way longer to nail the prompts when I could just write the correct copy and be done with it.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using the tools available to you to do your job—it isn’t cheating for an animator to use After Effects for their motion graphics, and surely there was a time that that felt just as advanced and mind-blowing.
ChatGPT will get more sophisticated in the future, but for now, the one time I was stuck and tried to turn to it… it wasn’t good. Not that it’s help still needed work, but like it wasn’t even at the level that it gave inspiration I could build off of.
Eventually, I’d love to have it be good enough that it can spark something when I’m feeling stumped, but would feel very very lazy if I were just taking what it gave me verbatim and not applying any of my editing, critical thinking, or expertise to it. That’s the point where even as a writer I’d feel like I didn’t deserve my job
The person or entity publishing is the one putting their stamp of approval on the output. This has always been the case whether they are writing it themself or a ghost writer is.
