Best wishes! I took the day off. It depends a lot on how much pain you have and how stimulated your ovaries are. I had about 30 follicles, on the verge of OHSS, and needed a lazy afternoon. Plus there’s hangover of the painkillers / sedation if used for your procedure. I did work the next day (from home, in sweats)
Have a lot of mild foods and electrolyte drinks ready. Soup, Gatorade, coconut water - whatever you like. For me a lot of liquids was important to recovery.
This was true for me as well. I actually had one of the worse pain/bloating in my life before retrieval which did not go away till I had my periods. I was very woozy, and tired after the procedure. I took the day of procedure off, and I had it on Friday as well so had the weekend to rest. I was advised to have salty food (chinese) to help with my bloating. Sleep was my best friend and in 2 days I was able to resume brisk walking, though my bloating was really uncomfortable. Couple of thing that really helped me- having a ready meal to have when I come home (soup), spouse to help me around to bathroom (i was in pain and really found it difficult to walk), heating pads, fluids, electrolyte water, fun movies to catch up in the evening post surgery, colace, fiber, tylenol, and lots of sleep. Good luck!!!
Definitely would take the day off. You're woozy from the anesthesia. I was able to work from home the next day, but wasn't 100%.
Everything McK1 said, plus take laxatives as soon as you get home (Colace is good). My worst side effect after my first retrieval was constipation from the anesthesia.
ohhh good to know!

I’m going Friday too!! A bunch of the wonderful folks on this forum shared amazing tips in a post I made a few days ago.
My office just called me too and I had them walk me through every step of the retrieval. And talk to me about every side effect and recovery period and everything. I recommend if that’s helpful for you to call and demand the info!
I didn’t have a lot of pain but I was very groggy / out of it for at least 4 or 5 hours after. If it were me, I’d cancel all meetings and plan to take the day off, but you may feel up to working by late in the day (just don’t force it).
I’ve had three retrieval’s/rounds of IVF. First two rounds I was back on my feet and feeling pretty normal the day after. My third one I got mild OHSS and was definitely NOT find the day after. Took about a week to get back to normal. Maybe tell work that you are getting a procedure to give yourself license to take an extra day if you need to.
Thank you all- really appreciate the advice! You are all amazing 🙏

Echo what everyone said. It could be fine but it could also not be. My first retrieval was good, some headaches but was able to function. Second retrieval I was completely out of it from the anesthesia and once that wore off I had the worst cramps and headaches of my life. I felt coherent but according to my husband, I definitely wasn’t lol.
OP, GOOD LUCK!!🍀
I took the day of and tge day after off to rest. I was in a lot of pain the next day and was glad I took it off.
Expected to be bloated. You'll probably feel really tired but mostly normal. Don't let that fool you - you need to take it easy. You'll probably be on antibiotics for a few days. Saltine crackers and ginger ale will be your best friend.
You can most likely work from home here and there but you'll be pretty spacey. If you can take the day off I would.
