How does everyone manage updating PowerPoint decks. How do you indicate which slides still need updated or reformatted versus which ones are done?

Hi all! I work at a nonprofit and am looking to leave the organization. have a requirement to show an interactive scatter chart in Power Point from data stored in an Excel spreadsheet. Power Point and Excel files need to be in the same folder on a local machine and usable without an internet connection. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar rewritten and, if yes, what was the approach and/or tools that you used?

I've researched using VBA but there are several examples and I'm wondering the most maintainable and user- friendly solution. Thx!
