How easy is it to make friends in Toronto? I'm moving to the city shortly, for a job that will help me earn money that I've never made before. But that's the only good part. I'm leaving behind my family for this opportunity, all my friends of the last 30 years, and everything else familiar to me. Are the people of Toronto welcoming?

You won't feel like an outsider for long! There’s a ton going on: hobby groups, fitness clubs, meetups, and events make it easier for newcomers to connect if you’re willing to put yourself out there. People here are friendly, but sometimes a little reserved or busy compared to smaller towns, so it helps to join groups or start conversations at community spaces or cafes.

Be the person you want to be friend with, and you will be fine

There are a ton of meet up groups online through fbook or the meet up apps. I am more introverted but found it fairly easy to make friends here.

Ignore any negativity :) of course making friends as an adult is tough- but there are so many ways to meet people. There’s an event called TimeLeft and they basically organize dinner for groups of 6-8 strangers in your age group, with similar interests who are looking for friends. It’s a super great way to meet people! And otherwise, yes there’s tons of hobbies you can pursue, clubs you can join, etc!

I recently had an initial interview for a technical recruiter position. The guy on the phone stated that this is not a 9-5 job and long hours are expected. I proceed to ask how much PTO is offered and he said that is not recommend within the first 6 months of working and the harder you work the more PTO you receive. From that conversation, I saw instant red flags. Any thoughts?

Hi all,

After the final interview, HR reached out and said they would like to extend an offer. HR gave a ball park of 135k - 145k base with about 15k in sign-on equity and 20k annual bonus.

After a couple of days, HR person came back with with 125k base and 20k annual bonus. No sign-on equity anymore. What should I do given that these numbers seem way lower than the initial range provided? HR claimed it’s because of “market conditions”.

I’m in a little of a pickle but a good one. Offer A. Established “start up” doing well financially and projected to hit profitability. 130k base. Stocks offered, unlimited PTO, and 70% Medical covered. Offer B. Is at a business much larger…90k salary with 10% bonus and generous stock offering. Titles are different which is why the pay is much different. I know some may think it is a no brainer but offer A allows me to grow the department ground up whereas offer B id be apart of to just different

Toronto banks: remote or not? They sometimes post jobs where it doesn’t say it’s remote, but no branch/ location/address either. Then you get an interview and they tell you it’s remote/hybrid(1-2-3days, take your pick)/on-site. So, if you work at TD, Scotia, RBC, could you let everybody know in the comments what’s the deal for each? Are you remote, on-site, hybrid of some sort?
