Based on my experience:
Being a fresher, you will always get manual testing. And this is the first step in Testing field. Here you will get to know how, why, when, where. Automation testing I can say is very useful for regression testing. Once you get into Automation testing you will get to know that manually we can do much faster. I'm into UFT so talking about my technology. Its all about type of application (Web, Desktop, etc) how they response.
Reason of slowness is the framework. Exectuing function, Reporting, Taking Screenshot, Saving in excel, posting timestamp. These all are done well by automation but takes a bit time. Not more. But you will always listen from manual team that they can do faster than automation and yes its true but they can't do regression testing and Actual testing at a time. So automaton testing was introduced.
This is the overview I have given you of Testing field. There is more scope into this Field. You can get 15L package easily after switching 3 or 4 yrs exp. But switching company is main. Also you can switch to Development not an issue if u are into Java or Python technology.
Learning from your end should not be stopped.
Best of luck
True, manual testing is so underrated(in salary wise). Y we are paid less☹☹☹. In automation only they do regression, they can't check API and integrations and all but still they are paid more😏😏😏. But manual testing is very exciting work than automation. Here we communicate with different people while automation testers depend on manual testers for test data/ walk-through etc
