How long should it take to do a conflict check for a 2nd year lateral associate? I am trying to figure out how long I should wait before following up.

Depends on your prior practice, the amount of clients you worked on and the practice groups in the new firm (eg if you rep defendants and the prospective firm reps plaintiffs there could be a lot of conflicts to dig through)

like

It could take a few weeks, although I wouldn't expect it to. Not necessarily because it takes that long, just because the conflicts staff may be busy/on vacation/on reduced work schedule. I'd give it at least a full week and then check in casually.

I’m at $165k now, what should I ask for with my promotion?

I am considering investing in an early stage startup. I know the founders for many years and are more like family to me. I will be investing $100K with a convertible note. What should be the equity that I should be drawing out? I don’t want to draw just the fair amount so the company is not at a disadvantage when they eventually raise money outside of F&F. They are valued at $5M by a startup accelerator and received $50K as part of being admitted into the program. Contd.
