I’m working on this, too. I think noticing where new arguments can be added or existing arguments can be strengthened adds value. I also re-structure where necessary. Also helps to actually tell the partner what you did so they know you did more than just read through a document.
Just to clarify - I am talking about adding a new case or noticing where a prior round of changes has resulted in faulty grammar or weird sentence structure - not making changes just for their own sake.
Save the redline, think about and try to learn from the changes, and look at the document the next time you do something similar so you can avoid your colleague making similar changes.
It depends. If the client has already read it and approved it, accept the changes and move on. If it’s still under internal review (and you’re working directly with the partner and have some seniority instead of being a junior under a mid-level and a senior who are also on the case), then go for it.
