Back in the day, our minimum at my big law firm was 1950. I easily made that. Once I hit that, I’d see how much was feasible to hit the next bonus tier, and if it wasn’t, I’d basically go on vacation for December. As I got more senior, though, that wasn’t really an option.
About 1450 my first year and our bonus target is 1800. Lower AmLaw 200 firm. Apparently that is pretty normal at my firm for a first year.
I did 1500 as a first year with a 1950 target. You’ll get more hours as the year progresses, I remember being super slow until early summer and then like 150+/mo for the rest of the year. It’s super normal, keep asking for work, keep saying yes. You’ll be good.
When I was a first year I wound up at around 1300 prorated (associates started in January back then). People who have been around longer (i.e., as far back as the post-recession years) probably acknowledge that the ramp up for year 1 can be really slow in some environments. Just keep asking and being available.

1400 as a first year
Just over 1950. Few relatively slow months then bam 270+ January lol. Work will probably find you, and if it doesn’t it’s not on you as a junior unless you’re ducking work when slow/available.
My first year I was just shy of 2500

Was that required? 2450 was our highest bonus tier back when I was in big law as an associate. And I never made that. But I took a lot of vacation. The corner office partners in my practice group liked me, so I never got grief for that.
I don’t remember exactly, but it was 1850 requirement and I was pretty far off. Like 1700? It ended up a big deal - my firm was very much 1850 minimum, not target. Thankfully everyone was happy with my work, my hours were actually being written up in some cases, so I wasn’t fired. I was “held back” for the year but then when I made hours year 2, I was bumped back up to my class for year 3.
About 2400 as a first year at a “free market” system firm (lol) and that was an outlier. I think it’s definitely OK to not hit your minimum as a first year even if this market is a bit brutal. It’s not entirely on you as a junior to find work especially if you’re not dodging requests that come in.
I billed 1700 and that I still got threats of getting laid off by a partner

I billed about 1700 my first year when the requirement (for bonus eligibility) was 1900. Still got a bonus.
1500. Always takes a bit to get your feet under you and build your internal sources of workflow. I’m now a sixth year who easily bills over 2k a year.
~2350
A little over 2000 as a first year but my stub year which was only 4 months I had a few 60 hour months lol
