EM: one full time, plus you do side of desk work
AP: Typically 3 but you play different roles. You can be either ED (in charge of overall project) or CD (content expert). ED is much more work than CD
P: 3+ but again you can play different roles. You can be ED or CD like the AP, but there’s another role called RP
Generally at the EM level you shoot for 80% utilization and at AP and above 65%
So an EM does one project but then can have 1-2 weeks of beach between projects
An AP may ED two projects for a month, next month ED one and CD two, and then take two weeks of PTO. That would be roughly their target utilization
EM: 1
AP 1-3
P 2+
T2 depends on the model - likely more cases, especially if the PA/Function uses a fractional staffing model for juniors
No, you can’t EM two projects. And EMs don’t really “sell” projects. They can help with proposals and even drive them but it’s not their proposal, so they don’t have a natural claim over any project
Wow this sounds much more appealing than my firm where Ms are doing like 4-8 and Ps 10+ projects at a time.
Just a different model with fractional staffing due to how many hours are required for projects. Bain pre 2000s also had fractional staffing for some projects. Also can be a reflection of the billable rate of the different firms and how they optimize utilization.
T2 firms also have a higher per-manager project demand than MBB.

Primarly, as many as one needs to hit their utilization targets. Its not a popularity context btw. It's deploying the right ppl to the right projects without blowing the burn rate on the various projects.
Does this happen all the time? No.
