☝️ understandable OP but if you’re being attacked like you say you are, then you aren’t on his “good side” anyway now are you?
Take a screenshot. Keep it for records.
Screen shot then respond that you have been told his email tone is meant to be motivating but you’d like to discuss other ways of communicating since the attached email made you uncomfortable. Screenshot that too.

Ignore Copy1 ☝️ — DON’T SAY THING IN PERSON. This CD is doing it over email for one reason, OP — whether his comments are warranted or not, he’s creating a trail that is painting you as “problematic" because he’s preparing to let you (and possibly others go). I’ve seen this before. It’s a tactic. Be sure to defend yourself and ask him in the email why he’s doing this, since his comments are unfounded. Keep everything on the record and print out hard copies of the correspondence for you to keep in a safe place. I’m serious
Ow I love these. Save them all AD! That's your best evidence if you ever need to have a conversation with HR. Bad managers deserve to answer for their actions. Take a deep breath or a long walk before replying.
Screenshot and respond
My fear of saying anything, calling him out, or confronting him on why it’s unfair to say the things he says in the email, is that I’ll burn bridges and potential opportunities that would come from being on his good side
There's no need to confront or be aggressive. Be polite and explain your point of view. This is a good opportunity. Trust me, you'll have to deal with this on a daily basis.
If it helps, write down whatever your thoughts are, but DONT SEND IT OUT just yet. Go take a walk and come back to it with a new mindset. EDIT it. (Do it as many times as you need) Ask a coworker/friend to help (if you have someone).
I don’t think I am on his bad side. A senior creative told me it’s his weird, biting way of motivating. But I’m not fine being mocked like that.
Basically make it about a proactive way to find a better way to communicate. If he’s not open to that, report it as hostile.
Try not to have that tone conversation over email. In person is better
@OP ignore Senior Ex Designer —. If this guy is emailing these attacks then defend yourself politely over email And keep a record of everything
Why is this happening via email? F2F always works better. Unless you’re being documented as a problem, it’s just spineless to do things over email
The paranoia is real.
Managing up is a good skill to have. Sounds like you’ve got the perfect opportunity to work on it
Screenshot them. Make a folder. Go to a higher up higher then them
If you can, ignore it like you were too busy to read emails and make them talk to you in person. Emails are so lazy. They should earn that massive paycheck.
