How many times have you heard the phrase "in an effort to be transparent"? We all know that this phrase is corporate speak for we will let you know what we want and nothing else.

Help me understand why an employee should be completely transparent when the employer is not. For those that are overemployed, why show all of your cards?

Way too often. The simple answer is that you shouldn't be. I'm not. My employers don't need to know anything about what I'm doing outside of billable hours, so long as I'm not violating any noncompetes. My work is always done on time, which is all they should care about.

I agree! It's best to hold your cards close to your chest and the bosses should be on a need to know basis.

Hey Bowl,
I work for a late stage(ipo) start up, earlier this year we were acquired & since then they got rid of our yearly bonuses and gave us an ESOP grant.
2 RIFs later we are almost bare bones. Since we are coming up on our usual yearly evaluations many of us assumed (with multiple conversation from our managers) that pay raises and promotions were due.
In a recent All hands we found out that this year there will be no pay raises nor promotions based off merit. Is it time to jump ship?

Did you change anything on your resume when you have 2 FT jobs?

like

I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. I’ve kept J1 because I’m still on the bench doing absolutely nothing and getting paid. Thinking about looking for a role on a project with J1 that’s not along my career path but will allow for me to do work with no calls so that I can manage both jobs. Does anyone have experience or advice?

Where there any legal issues? (The two companies area in different industries so no competition). How did you manage both? The new company knows I'm still employed, should I quit the first or keep it as long as I can manage both? Any bad vibes or feelings of unprofessionalism? TIA

My current role is hybrid with at least two days a week in office. However, with the potential economic downturn, I'm considering holding on to the role to supplement my income.

I'm new to the overemployed movement, so I'm evaluating the feasibility of holding onto the hybrid role and the remote position.
