Decided I wanted something nice and don’t have kids. My partner has done quite well and until this last year was the breadwinner.
First condo was 850k as a Manager that we sold for 910k 6 years later. Then, bought 2.2M condo the year I was up for Partner and put another 350k in for renovations. Probably worth around 2.6M and we love it. No regrets - work hard and travel a lot so want to enjoy my home.

Buy as little as you need. Reiterate "need." You'll probably have fewer parties and less family at your house than you think you will, you'll probably want to travel more, your kids will love you because of who you are to them and not where you live. I'm in a 5,500 sq. ft. house that I love but don't need. I'd sell it in a heartbeat if I could find something smaller in a good neighborhood for less. I'm older than you, but you'll be an empty nester, too, before you know it!
