That is extremely low. It should be 16 weeks fully paid at the absolute minimum for both. New parents need time to adjust, have sleep deprivation and need to bond with their children’s I guarantee a longer time with children and getting adjusted will help productivity at work in the long run.
If your organization is large enough, you should be offering FMLA, which runs concurrently with our short-term disability. STD runs 6 weeks for natural birth and 8 weeks for c-section. The employee can use up to 12 weeks of FMLA; however, we also have a policy where individuals must use their sick or vacation time for any unpaid time off.
We don’t offer paternity leave at all. I wish we did. We give six weeks for maternity leave. Otherwise they have to use vacation time or go on family and medical leave.
8 weeks paid for birthing parent, and 1 week paid for non birthing parent.
