Have been running pretty consistently at +$500 per month. Covers food (formula then solids, “activities” like Gymboree and music class, etc). Obviously that doesn’t include childcare. Also, we haven’t had to buy many clothes as we get a lot of hand-me-downs. Just the one offs (more pajamas) and impulse buys.
Not as much as i thought it would. Honestly the big expenses didn’t kick in until we went started using a nanny share. Then was spending ~1000-1400 a month depending on how much we used the nanny. Biggest expense kicked in when we to fulltime day care at ~$1700 a month
Totally agree M1. First three months, incremental expenses were negligible. When my wife returned to work after month 3 - nanny expense kicked in. We just planned for the big expenses (child care and monthly 529 contributions).
Hard to measure since it’s displaced expenditures not necessarily incremental. You’re not gonna do much else but parent.
Biggest tickets are child care (which will vary by geography) and potentially doctor visits if the kid is in daycare. Our first year included a LOT of sick visits for minor fevers and viruses that came from daycare. Also furniture, etc.
Food is nothing in the beginning and didn’t really get significant for us until after year 1. Clothes we were pretty set on from gifts and just had to supplement here and there. Same with toys
Outside of childcare and hardware (crib, stroller, car seat, etc), it's not that expensive for folks who make what we do.
Oooof. No one picked up on how bad of an idea its going to be to have mil live in your house? You sure about that? How long you thinking?
I’ve had mixed reviews having MIL in the house, some like the extra help, some can’t stand them. Most likely going to be permanent
