Does anyone have any insights on what a typical Sr. Associate Director makes at Boehringer Ingelheim? I have a range of 170-180k which I think is fair but don’t want to be underpaid. Also, any information regarding retirement planning or medical/dental benefits would be helpful. Haven’t gotten much out of HR. Thanks in advance!

This means your job doesn’t make you miserable, which I think is the ultimate goal. Trying to find a job that makes you “happy” isn’t realistic.
Maybe it means you’re already relatively happy. An unhappy person might take a 40% pay cut, but an already happy person probably would not take a new job for a 1% pay cut.
I have to give a lot of my time to work, that’s just how it goes. I want to be well compensated for that time, but also not miserable during all that time. I would consider a cut if it meant better WLB or work that I wanted to do more, maybe some other things too. What ultimately makes me happy is not being too stressed about those bills.
I once worked in my “dream” job in terms of being absolutely happy and even excited to go to work most days, but I was completely broke and constantly stressed out about how I was going to manage to pay my rent and utilities if anything extra came up. Car needs repairs? Could mean having the gas shut off and living without hot water for a while. Literally. Then I got laid off (at a time that I just happened to be pregnant with my first child…complete coincidence, I am sure 🙄).
I collected unemployment during most of my high risk pregnancy because nobody wanted to hire someone who had to keep their feet elevated all day. Remote jobs weren’t really a thing back then.
I ended up having to move in with family for a while after I had my kiddo. And that’s when I decided that I had to learn how to do something that would enable me to make better money even if I didn’t love it. And I found something. And I didn’t love it or even like it most days, but I got good at it. And that led to several promotions that I was offered without even applying. The most recent being a leadership position.
Now, I don’t love my job. But I do care about the people who report to me and I do all that I can to make sure they at least don’t hate their jobs. And while my salary is still modest enough that I do have to be careful and strategic, my financial worries now are like “how am I going to manage to help my kids with their state school college tuition?” or “Lordt how am I going to handle adding this teen boy to my car insurance?” but I don’t have to worry about the utilities getting shut off every time there’s an unexpected expense. And, it’s worth the trade-off.
