How often are you guys checking in with your managers?? I dont want to come off as “needy,” but I dont want to get lost in my team of 6.

My work is solid and my attitude is good, and I want my manager to actually see that as well.

Once a month

like

Every day

Minimum in my weekly 1x1, but as needed throughout the week.

A few times a week, sometimes just once a week. I make it a point to start on Monday, letting them know what I’ll be working on, and I can get feedback before jumping in.

If your manager does not schedule weekly 1 x 1, I recommend sending them a weekly update of what you are working on, meetings attended, escalations, etc. Of course reach out to your manager via teams/zoom, if something arises where you need assistance or requires their immediate attention.

We have a weekly 1x1 set up, and usually need to discuss something outside of that at least once or twice a week. Do you think you're getting less time with your manager compared to your coworkers?

Once every other week. We have a meeting scheduled automatically but if there’s nothing to discuss, we just cancel the meeting.

Once a week for sure but sometimes more if I need feedback but I try not to ask expect when absolutely necessary

Hello folks, recently moved to industry from consulting. In my previous company, we had teams who formatted PowerPoint presentations. Suggested the same to my manager in my new job and he is keen to explore an outsourced model. Are there any companies who do this - creating, formatting, polishing PowerPoint presentations? Suggestions welcome.

Waitlisted at UVA Darden, accepted to a MS IT Management.

Previous military so I have a GI Bill to burn through. I'm waitlisted at Darden's EMBA and accepted to a 1-yr MS IT Management program.

My thought is that if I don't get off the waitlist, I can do the MS MIT this year then the EMBA next year. My mentor thinks the MS MIT might pigeon-hole me into the tech-only world and be redundant if I'm going to go on to get the EMBA.

I'm starting my first year consulting on an IT contract in June.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

Is there any advantage to telling a company you are interested in working for in the future where you decided to accept an offer from? Or does it not matter? I accepted an offer a week ago with a great company (Company A) that for this season in my life seems like a great fit and only strengthens what I have to offer company B down the road. Company B just sent me a request for interview and I want to keep the door open with Company B but they were just very late in extending an interview.

How do you all deal with time management - and specifically time estimate - problems?

I always underestimate how long things will take, both because we ADHD’ers view time differently and because I don’t build in time for getting distracted.

I work with a partner who asks me by when I can get something done rather than giving a deadline. I appreciate the flexibility but I always short sell myself and end up pulling all-nighters to meet my self-imposed unrealistic deadlines.

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

User experience mgr salary? I support six product teams and eight reports. 20+ years experience

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?
