How often do you guys do coffee chats to network? This may sound stupid but I’m considering the financial implications. I am pretty frugal… is there an alternative method?

That is doable

If you’re grabbing coffee with someone, always go expecting to pay, but they may surprise you and pay for it - especially if they’re more senior

I’ve had “coffee chats” with people at my office, where we each grabbed free coffee from the pantry, or just shown up to a little meeting room with the travel mug of whatever we brought from home

Another option - get the cheapest thing on the menu for yourself. Order yourself a hot chocolate and if the other person asks about it, just say that you’ve already had too much coffee today

Thanks!

Is there any way to do it at your office with free coffee?

Kind of but no one likes the free coffee 😂. Most people go to a shop across the street.

Once a month.

Not stupid at all, it adds up. Honestly, a lot of people are totally fine with quick virtual chats or even just connecting over LinkedIn first. It’s more about the conversation than the coffee.

I completely agree. I have virtual coffee chats monthly separately with many business partners. I typically go in with at least 3 questions which opens the conversation for additional topics.

Virtual is a great idea.

Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?
