Unfortunately, most jobs expect you to available for whatever time they need and do not respect boundaries. However, they do not expect to pay you for crossing those boundaries. Anytime ( unless you are on call), you answer the phone, text, or email during your personal time, you are working for free. Boundaries need to be established from the beginning, because once you respond the first time, then you unwilling giving permission to continue to violate your personal time.
I never got in last 10 yrs
Guess it depends on what role you play. At one point, no one knew how to do my job so they would call. However, i did set boundaries....
Chief
How did you set those boundaries? Did it end up working out?
Just about every single time

Don't answer the calls.
This is precisely the reason I have 2 phones.
Depending on the trip, I may leave my work phone home. Only 1 or 2 of my colleagues have my personal number, and they KNOW it is for emergency only. When I travel for work it is a bit of a pita to carry both.
Bill; I sent a dozen emails with a question and you haven’t responded.
Are you texting on Glassdoor again?
Chief
Pretty much LOL
Wrong answer if you are a manager or above.
Never unless on Pat leave and they are asking if I want to extend it lol
I was called on every single vacation including internationally. I was adamant that they were not to contact me on my honeymoon!!!
Chief
I miss the days where cell phone reach abroad was impossibly expensive.
Next time you take a vacation, you need to be very clear with your reports and your managers that you are on vacation. Make sure you have set up handoffs well and tell people that you won't frequently be available for consults on the problems. If you are getting calls, refer people to the person who is point for the project while you are away. If they say "yeah, but they don't know..." and you set up the handoff well, have a conversation with your manage, HR etc. when you get back. If you are not senior enough to do these things, change jobs.
Never.
