Can we expect a permanent wfh option?
McKinsey & Company I am joining the McKinsey & Company Boston office in late July and searching for housing in the meantime. If I could get some insight on the ratio of days in the office vs work from home that would be super helpful!
If I need to come into the office regularly I will try to find a place close by.

Wow this is eye-opening. Thanks for letting me know.
I wonder... If I do this do I need to connect to a router which VPN as though I'm in US?
I'm doing this right now - but I cleared it with our risk office first and they had no issues with it.
Why can’t you just call 1800 Deloitte? You would have had your answer days ago.
Could someone give me an ELI5 on this? I didn’t know this was an issue
Yeah only way you can work overseas is if it’s for approved work.
I guess you’re doing it and I guess you’ll find out
Ended up deciding against it actually but starting to regret it, so looking for confirmation that decision was right
I see how Deloitte would know but why would they care? They aren’t sending you to work there and you aren’t actually working in-country so visa isn’t an issue; this is no different from needing to log on and take care of something while you’re on personal vacation abroad which happens all the time. Couldn’t OP just tell them that “home” = “parents’ / siblings’ / whomever’s home is X country”? Honestly seems totally fine to me. If a team member told me this I’d just feel bad about the time zone and not think about it again.
This is quite common, many people are stuck in other countries than they normally work in right now due to COVID.
Given that tax and legal rules are the reason that firms don’t allow this. Would you be fired if you got caught? Or what is the chance that you’d even get caught given we are all staying remote for the foreseeable right now anyway?
OP... what did you do? Raising flags at a time like this? 🤔
If you are on an immigrant visa it will cause you a huge problem for sure.
Site visit needs a 2 week notice I think. They can't just walk in.
That said, you could easily be found out, the employer takes your I94 while filing for a visa and thus would know your travel history if they want to know it.
Don’t try it. The firm knows when you take their stuff out of the country. Even if you’re on “WiFi”. How do I know??? I did it, and when I got back, IT pinged me that week.
It was my phone, I had it on “wi-Fi only” and “airplane mode” the entire week when I was in Europe. I didn’t get in trouble, my point was that the firm knows.
Assuming this also applies to Canada and Mexico?
Update : risk only approving exceptions if you are stranded abroad due to travel that occurred prior to travel restrictions being put in place.
