Cont’d…businesses focus on making their hometowns better (one on a very large scale through RE development and attracting businesses to the city and the other through developing talent for jobs).
Unfortunately I have moved around a lot and don’t live where I grew up and will likely move from where I am now so I am not sure I can do something similar.
The point of this rambling post is that I see these folks and it burns me up inside because I know I’ve got the potential, but I can’t get it out. It doesn’t help that I am in my late 30s (although I don’t limit myself thinking I can’t still accomplish something great).
I don’t know if I need mentorship or some encouragement, but it’s a feeling I can’t kick for a few days after I go down the rabbit hole of reading about their accomplishments.
One thought to start investing in Real Estate which may lead to buying commercial properties but I’m not sure if that will be a waste of time or I should focus on coming up with a business idea.
I figured someone would inquire on this. I split up into professional success and personal success and this post addresses professional success. The financial aspect is obvious, but I also appreciate the fact that these people have built something themselves, are helping others in some way, and will also include the things many people probably see as taboo to mention it I like that they have influence and notoriety as well. The latter two are not reasons I want to start something myself but they are positive (to me) byproducts is what I want.
I did commercial real estate after a long stint in big law and it was the best decision I ever made. But I knew I wasn’t going to come up with the next app or open a cupcake store, so given my law degree and MBA, CRE was a natural fit.
Thanks for your reply. Very inspiring! How did you start in RE? Are you in house now or full time RE?
I cofounded the commercial real estate/private equity fund where I’m also the GC, after 12 years in big law.
Thanks for following up. I think some research and prep and I may be on my way. Really appreciate it - your post has inspired me more than you’d know.
