I would like to hit fire between 40-50. Currently 27, 185k total comp (125 for me and 60 for partner). Like my job don’t hate it don’t love it. Does an MBA make sense? I’m guessing it could take me to 170ish with that schools I’m looking at but wondering if the 40-50 retirement range makes an mba not make sense since I’d only have 10-20 years to save vs 12-22.

Would have to finance the whole thing myself. Current net worth is 140k. Thoughts?

Depending on how an MBA changes your personal comp trajectory, it can absolutely payoff and more than compensate for the opportunity cost - even by mid 40s.

What other strides have you made in Fire-ing by 40?
Getting into debt for an mba doesn’t make sense if you are in debt or have little savings compounding during that time.

When I hit 40-50 years old ^

Definitely feel like we would need more information about your current situation, the potential costs of the program and potential new job.

Whether an MBA is worth it really comes down to the hard numbers. Are you planning to be a full time mba student or do part time while still employed?

Does your current job, or job you can get cover any educational expenses to offset the cost of the mba?

Basically you need to sit down and use either excel or an online calculation tool and detail out the different scenarios you can find yourself in to determine if this makes sense for you.

I had a job interview for a role that I really want. The hiring manager scheduled me for an interview and did not show up. Emailed me an hour later stating that he got super busy and couldn’t attend, and would like to reschedule. This is a major red flag, but I can’t help but feel that I am missing out since this role pays 50% over what I currently make. Should I let the recruiter know? What’s your take on this?

I’m maxing out my 401K, traditional IRA and HSA this year and paying for some house improvements. I have about $750K total investments and very close to $2M net worth, but realize that I am behind on investments if I want to do FIRE. I was focused on paying off huge chunks of my mortgage and managed to whittle it down to $75K left. Would you suggest I go ahead and pay that off this year? Or pause and do a mega back door roth instead? I’m mid 40s. Thanks!
