Try pre-heating your oven to the lowest setting and opening it and putting your face in there for as long as you can stand. Then, put a heater in your car and leave it running on high. Put a curling iron on low on the door handle, and practice not burning your hand on the handle or the seatbelt when getting into the vehicle. That should start you in the right direction.
Ha! I am guessing this is a summer internship so unlikely you will be driving, but there is a reason people put sunshades up in their car windows, heavily tint the glass and throw a towel on the seat. So if you are getting i to someone's car that has been parked in the sun. be very wary and immediately roll down the windows to blow out the really hot air to replace with medium hot air the airconditioner will have a chance of cooling.
In the morning, a 10 minwalk to work will fine. At 5 walking back, stay on the shady sideof the street. You will spend 90% of your time inside
Moved to Austin after finishing school in Ohio, here’s my advice
1. don’t bother bringing a winter coat. the 1 or 2 days of the year you’d actually need it, everyone has a mutual understanding to stay inside
2. people here don’t know how to drive in any sort of weather, including rain. be prepared for commute times to shoot up if it’s raining, especially on a highway
3. when getting an apartment, make sure it has decent insulation and check if it’s south/west facing. one place i lived here was older and got direct sunlight every evening during the summer - my electric bills were insane that year
4. laundry being in a closet outside/on the patio is normal for apartments, don’t be put off by it
The hottest months will be June-September. If you’re going to do any outdoor activities or work, it’s comfortable at dawn or dusk. Even just going for a walk at noon will overheat you.
Don’t worry about the sweat. Everyone sweats here in the summer. No one will bat an eye, unless you look like your drenched.
The humidity is pretty high, though there are worse places elsewhere (Houston).
You can either avoid the heat as much as possible or get out in it as often as possible to acclimate. If you go out and do some light activity, even for 15-30 minutes every day you’ll be acclimated in a few weeks. It won’t be comfortable, just less uncomfortable
As much as Texans want to act like they are tough in the heat, everyone is a wimp. It got up to 117F last summer. You can't prepare. Stay inside as much as possible.
I also didn't say it was normal lol
go to barton springs lol
Oh my Goodness welcome to Texas!
I moved before the summer last year from beautiful PA- I love the heat, although this was HEAT!!! I totally agree with Deloitte 1- really good advice except I did need my winter coat this winter😂. But it’s nice to wake up to sunshine
Just don’t complain too much about the heat, everyone knows it’s hot af haha so there’s no need to bring it up all the time
Just be sure to stay hydrated and don’t stay out too long especially if over 95F, exception is if you’re in some cool water but even then make sure you have some waterproof sunscreen or you’ll burn up
If you’re out hiking and stuff like that a lot consider getting a sun hoodie so u don’t need to worry about reapplying sunscreen out there
The summer is unreal hot. We literally leave to not be here for it. Last year it was dozens of weeks of every. Single. Day. being over 100F. Good luck
its why we have air-conditioning.
Massive electric bills, not doing anything outside from 10:30 AM till 7 PM or so.
You can’t prepare. Just stay inside or be submerged in water. Those are the only two options
