If you have good relationships at your firm and people are aware and understand what happened, then you are over thinking.
Am I overthinking? If not, what is the likelihood of going back to the firm I previously turned down?
If you like it there and are well-liked aside from the low hours, I say stick it out. You can turn things around. I was in a similar situation and had multiple years of low hours thanks to personal things (small kids during COVID in particular). I also frankly wore out my welcome with some people. But I am still here and still viewed as having potential for advancement.
I had something similar happen though had been there far less time than you and thought I was well liked I was let go. The offers I’d gotten paid significantly more than that were paying me. I went to work there because they seemed nice and emphasized how humane they were compared to the big firms I was in and said they were all like family.
This story can honestly go either way. I’ve seen people at other firms I was at abruptly take 3 months off for personal reasons and still make partner 2 years later. Unfortunately this is a very unfair world, and sometimes people do the right thing. Other times they see our personal lives (in my case getting injured in a bad wreck) as a sign we won’t be able to produce.
