I am an LEO in South Dakota. Due to South Dakota Codified Law 32-31-6.1, as law enforcement, we are required to go to amber lights on our vehicles as we get a vehicle stopped. This SDCL states that "Upon approaching from any direction any stopped authorized emergency vehicle making use of red visual signals meeting the requirements of this title, the driver of every other vehicle shall come to a complete stop..." Is there any other state that requires this? I was originally an LEO in Arkansas, where we run all blues, so it almost felt like a demotion. Also, I have noticed a lot of folks from out of state do not move over for us, given they have no idea what the heck we are doing!
Hmm I've never heard of this before. i can see how that would be super confusing for people on the road. Have you talked to your chief about it at all?

Could it be that going to ambers reduce the possibility of being zeroed on in by a driver dui, or a person with a medical issue? I ‘ be that Red and Blue light can cause someone to inadvertently zero in on the lights. ?????
Your state may have passed legislation going to this color. Most North East agencies use red. Some use blue or a combination of the two. I have never seen amber except for security and tow trucks. Check to see if federal legislation for red or blue exists and whether it might interfere with your agency’s ability to receive federal funding
