I would ask for benchmarking and a timeline for what you need to do to be promoted. I don’t think it’s totally unfair to see if you can perform at the higher level prior to the promotion, but it’s totally unfair if there is not road to promotion once you demonstrate certain things.
Thank you, I will try that. I feel quite in the dark about any path for advancement and just feel a bit taken advantage of at this point.
This is a straight face you in the face! They want you to prove you can do the work before promoting you but they already know you'll do a good job?! Sounds like they wanna promote you by mouth but not on paper. Get EVERYTHING in writing. I'd personally tell then need a definite promotion before I commit to anything but that's me. I hope things work out for you.

Thank you! It definitely feels shady.
Get a timeliness in writing. Worst case scenario if they do not stick to their word start looking for other jobs that appreciate what you have to offer. I have been their and the next/current job is way better than I could have dreamed of.
I agree with Director 1. Set the expectation and timeline in stone! So once you deliver you have somewhat of a leg to stand on. The feeling of being taken advantage of won’t go away which is why you have to make the place you work at your own! If they don’t align with your core values then you need to start balancing am I okay with my current pay vs. responsibilities as to what’s out there; considering you’d be possibly starting from the bottom.
