You can, but I would be very leery of doing it in this job market. I also can't say I see the need. If you're thinking another offer might come through and are considering holding off for it, don't. If it does come through and blows you away, you just accept it and burn the bridge with the other company if needed.
They are often trying to fill those positions as fast as possible. Unless you have another potentially sure thing, I would be hesitant to do that. They could go with somebody else who is ready to start immediately.
They probably won’t be sharing on Monday due to the holidays. Expect to hear back after Jan 5th. Usually you have 3 days to accept your offer. And unless you have other offers on the table you don’t have much leeway to ask for an extension. I wouldn’t risk it in this market, especially if it’s a bigger firm.
I would take what i can get in this job market
I would say 2-3 days is more standard than 24 hours. Unless they explicitly tell you they are in a hurry. Especially around the holidays.
I have a friend whose company rescinded an offer for someone who kept asking for extensions. If it’s a fair offer unless you’re waiting for something you want more there’s really no reason not to accept.
If you’re anticipating an offer , think about accepting it now. Why ask for 24 hours? That makes no sense.
