Turn off zoom camera and mic and scream into a pillow.
That’s annoying. It’s one thing if it’s a partner… not much you can do about that… but as an associate that’s your basic job description. This one guy in my office who didn’t want to help people with their cases always feigned ignorance so he wouldn’t have to help them, but he knew exactly how to do whatever it was you were asking. You might try that, but it will not win you any friends.
You could also offer to do a training day with each associate and make sure your job deducts it from your hourly requirements. You could also suggest the firm get a contracted remote IT service to help them (it’s what your firm would probably be doing if you weren’t there anyway). If you can explain how it’s costing the firm money (and track the frequency and number of requests) and be able to suggest a couple of vendors that offer the service, it may work
But you’re not really able to do much when it comes to requests to help partner. Associates should be able to function with tech on their own though
C1 they don’t but there’s a huge power inequality there so there’s not as much OP can do to push back. I’m also biased because I’m picturing my 70 something year old boss at my last firm who still used law books to do all his research and spent tens of thousands a year updating his library. He still paid for top quality Westlaw subscriptions for us younger lawyers, but he didn’t even know what Word was or how to do typing, filing, or legal research
I started in law pretty late in life. I finally bought a computer at 31 when I started law school (I’m 37 now). Not all millennials know how to use computers that well. Luckily, my firm has training programs relating to tech. Maybe see if you can get him in one of those.
Are you me? Literally the same thing happened to me. I left because my firm was so bad with tech. I felt like we were stuck in the 90's. And i wanted to scream every time they asked me to help them do basic things. Then everyone caught on that I helped with tech, so they would page me every hour, and it was so annoying and dumb. It's not hard.
