I am interviewing for a few roles as a Sr. Mgr. I’ve come across a role that wants to do a 4 hr assessment for business & personal return as well as set up a QBO file.

In the 20+ years I have never encountered this.

Not sure I want to take a 1/2 day of PTO to accommodate this.

Thoughts?

They just want free labor. Do this for 100+ applicants and they’ve just saved 400 hours of payroll costs.

I’ve done it once but was compensated pretty generously for my time.

I wouldn’t mind this! To be honest, SM doesn’t have to set up QBO. That’s bookkeeping job.

I've never seen or encountered this when looking for work. The only tests I have seen is a general bookkeeping/accounting test filled with maybe 30 questions for 30 minutes of time. If it were me, I would just pass, unless I was desperate to find a job.

I have a tax question. My father in law passed away in 2020 and we inherited his house. We are still in the probate process and we haven't got the house title. However, we have been paying the mortage and interest since we inherited the house. We filed the tax return for deceased person last year. Can we claim the mortgage interest deduction this year on our joint return (even though the 1099 will have my father in law's name)? Really appreciate any help!

I converted $30k of rollover 401k into a Roth IRA and have $26k of realized ST Capital Gains this year (Roth conversion in end of Q1 and most capital gains in Q2).
My total federal withholding tax last year was approximately $12k and this year I will have 40% more in reported income on my employer W2 and anticipate higher that $12k federal withholding for my new job. Given this, what is the best way to go about making est. tax payments for the income (continued.)
