I am officially calling a truce on the Scrubs vs. Business Casual debate for outpatient clinicians because both sides are missing the point. The older providers in my clinic insist that wearing business casual under a white coat commands respect, while the younger staff just want to wear matching figs and hokas for comfort during an 8-hour shift. I personally think looking like a corporate accountant doesn't make you a better diagnostician. Do you think patients actually judge a provider's competence based on whether they’re wearing khakis or joggers?

100 % depends on the patient, older patients may appreciate the more business attire where younger ones don’t care what the provider wears. I suggest you figure out what your patient demographic demands and go with that, if you’re not hearing any complaints from your patients then don’t fix what isn’t broken.

like

I agree. What does the patient demographic want to see. You won't change the older providers minds, so don't waste your breathe. The younger providers will be resistant to business casual, because in med school they allowed and most likely taught comfort. Truce accepted! LOL

To me it doesn’t matter at all as long as the scrubs don’t have cartoon characters on them (unless you are at a pediatrician or veterinary office).

YES!!

HELP! When using other offers to negotiate salary, does the employer usually ask for proof of your other offers that you mentioned? I’m super new to this so I’m just curious.

Also, if they do ask to show proof, is that a red flag? Or is that pretty common? If so, I imagine I’d just block out the company name and stuff like that?

I’ve been told my company is changing my title from Associate Director of BD to Sales Executive. I’m concerned it reads like a title demotion. Is it just semantics? How will this look for my career development? Curious about the standard perception of Sales Executive from a seniority perspective. Where does this land on the sales roles hierarchy? For context, it’s a professional services firm, I’ve been there 3+years, and they gave a Sales Executive title to someone who just started 5mo ago.

HR opinion: Do I have any leverage as a hospital nurse case manager in negotiating earned time? I have 15 years within the organization, left for 10 months to be remote during the pandemic while sorting out childcare as immunocompromised family helped. Now HR is restarting my ET as a new employee. I realize I left, but not on bad terms and I am an exemplar and respected employee. I thought I’d have the upper hand with the nursing shortage but I’m getting the “rules are rules” response. Help!?!

How would you handle not getting a lunch break when you are a salaried employee treating patients for 40 hours a week? I don’t get documentation time either, but all notes are to be completed the same day. Some of us have reached out to HR and we’re told to discuss it with the regional director, but the regional director says we’d have to come in early or leave late to block out a lunch break.
