I am pregnant and expecting by the end of the year. My boss knows. I have now, an incredible workload that is unprecedented and difficult to tolerate. Long late nights, every weekend. On top of that, he is behaving rudely and criticizing me at every turn. I have a feeling my boss is trying to make me quit. What should I do?

Document everything! With the behavior, I would try and see if you could have a quiet, respectful one on one conversation with your boss about your situation. Then memorialize the conversation in writing.

100% document it all, and let him know you’re at capacity and memorialize as A1 said.

FMLA

Consult with a plaintiff side employment lawyer and keep records at home or on a personal device about everything. The intent may be to terminate you, if you don’t quit.

Take ADA or FMLA leave.

like

Check the recording laws in your state and if permissible, record the conversation and save it.

Hard to say without you being more specific about what he's doing/saying that you interpret as rude or critical. We all have heavy workloads. Has the overall practice workload increased in the past 6 months?

They said “unprecedented” and “difficult” and working weekends. Not everyone has that.

He's making me the junior on matters where we have a junior. Also me to send invites, participate on calls I wasn't asked my availability on, passive aggressive requests for work and expectations to work every night at midnight.

Did this behavior start after he learned about your pregnancy? Unclear from the original post. If so, consult an employment law attorney ASAP

Part of the decline in children being born alive can be explained by employers that make it abundantly clear they would prefer you not have kids.

Truly evil some of these employers

I work in higher education, for a private university in the Midwest, and will be asking for a promotion to Director of Social Media. I would like to gauge what salary or % increase I should be asking for.

I'm coming up on 1 year since I was promoted to Assistant Director. (I was promoted bc the previous director left, but the truth is I'm not assisting anyone, and I've been running our university's social media for the last 3 years, with stellar analytics EVERY year since taking over.) TIA!

Layoffs. Most big firms say they're sitting on a conservative pile of cash - which I believe is true - but work will obviously not return to pre-COVID levels in the short term, probably not even in the medium term. Are Biglaw layoffs coming?

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.
