After submitting my resume for the Global Finance and Business Management full time position at JP Morgan (my dream job!), I got a HireVue invite the next day! However, I completed it 9 days ago and still have no response....
When do we get a response in average, and after how much time does it mean I probably am not getting an offer to continue?
Thanks!

First off, network.
Your work network may not be super deep yet, but that will be your best source of opportunity.
Congrats on your MBA as well, but also make sure you’re applying to roles that match your work experience. This is your first role, so don’t be afraid to go in at the bottom and prove why your degree and mba make you a valuable employee. Once inside there are a lot of avenues to show off your skills.
This is great advice!! Be willing to start at the bottom (even though you have an MBA), and then work hard to climb the ladder. Once you have your first role it’s easier to jump around and climb the ladder- the hardest part is just getting on the ladder in the first place. And leverage your network- ask friends and family if they know of any openings or if they can give you a referral. Your MBA cohort might also be able to help👍🏼
I've been looking (off and on) since April of 2024 and I have 15 years experience in FP&A.
My advise as a 20 year corporate rat - be realistic in your approach. I bet you're super smart with the MBA is an incredible accomplishment, but a degree doesn't mean you'll earn $100k+ out the gate. Get experience where ever you can and leverage that with relationships. Also, remember the harsh side of business - you are just a number to your organization. If you ever find a new role that is better for you, don't feel bad for leaving your current job. They'll have your position posted before your 2 weeks is up.
I would look into getting into the insurance industry. It's a pretty stable industry and they often have positions available.
lol what is SO ironic is that I, myself, graduated in February of 24 and I still have nothing. I imagine we both speak supply & demand and the circumstances are that the supply is significantly overwhelming the demand.
You can't get hired if no one calls you in to interview. When I was out of work I had applied to over 2000 roles. That genenerated about 15 legit interviews and maybe 3x that in insincere interviews. I worked with a coach that had me fine-tune my search, but ironically it was a blind posting from 6 months prior that got it done. While I do think there is some value in limiting what you apply to, the shotgun approach can work too.
Congratulations on earning your MBA. Network, network and network. Do you have a sense of what you are interested in doing in fiance? It is ok if you don't know. Look at industry groups within the financial industry, find one you can join, talk to the people in the group. Does your school offer any assistance with searching for a job? When looking for a job focus on one that will give you experience and possibly opportunities to grow internally and network within. Networking is as much about how to find opportunities but also exposure to learning what you don't want to pursue. Taking a job to gain experience will make your education more valuable.
What job did you have before your MBA?
What you wanna do and what salary are you looking to make ?
You can also try volunteering remotely to either gain hands-on experience in your area of expertise or build a well-rooted connection on LinkedIn.
From what I see, an MBA with no experience can still find work in Equity Research/structuring/valuation roles at smaller firms and European banks. I’d network like crazy and make sure I can hit the ground running, knowing all technicals and not leaving things to chance.
Congrats on your MBA. I earned my MBA in 2015 and this is is what I think:
1.- networking is your number 1 tool to land what you desire in a career. Your MBA peers should be helping you.
2.- I too, did not find a job right out of the gate. I graduated with honors from a top school and had over 10 years of experience and it was not until August that I found a job. Do Not Be Discouraged!
3.- my school had a program to help students land a job and they both co-wrote my resume and it was mandatory to take a three Saturday (“free”) class on interviewing. Interviewing is a skill that needs to be honed.
4.- cream always rises to the top. Do not be afraid of taking a job in the right place for less than what you want. Soon enough they will see your value and promote you.
5.- if you are looking for remote or a 1 day in the office hybrid you are shooting yourself in the foot. That market is overcrowded and companies are posting less of those jobs. Besides, if you will be promoted quickly, you will need to network inside the company and outside of Zoom or Teams.
6.- understand that since November companies were already putting the brakes on new hires waiting to see the Trump administration’s agenda. Those that relied on foreign goods placed all their cash in inventories so could not hire. And now those that rely directly or indirectly on government contracts have stopped hiring as well. Since November it has as hard, since late January it is almost impossible.
Good luck on your search.
